Rev. B 106, 184512)<\/a>\u00a0authored by Piotr Sobota, Rafa\u0142 Topolnicki, Tomasz Ossowski, and Rafa\u0142 Idczak from the Institute of Experimental Physics, in cooperation with Adam Pikul from ILTSR PAS and Tomasz Pikula from the Lublin University of Technology, was published in the acclaimed journal Physical Review B.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-ugb-container ugb-container bs-news-page-under ugb-f8694ce ugb-container--v2 ugb-container--design-plain ugb-main-block\"><div class=\"ugb-inner-block\"><div class=\"ugb-block-content\"><div class=\"ugb-container__wrapper ugb-f8694ce-wrapper\"><div class=\"ugb-container__side\"><div class=\"ugb-container__content-wrapper ugb-f8694ce-content-wrapper\">\n<p>High entropy alloys (HEA) are made up of five or more elements mixed at a minimum of 5%at. of each component. Despite the complex chemical composition, they form homogenous, simple structures. They exhibit high toughness and resistance to corrosion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/wfa.uwr.edu.pl\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/216\/2022\/11\/PSobota-1.jpg\" alt=\"PRESTI\u017bOWA PUBLIKACJA PRACOWNIK\u00d3W WFIA\" class=\"wp-image-37801\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Superconductive HEA alloys are promising candidates for new, resistant for mechanical damage, superconductive electromagnets with a potential application in science, medicine, and industry. Currently there is no cohesive theoretical description that allows prediction of both the formation of uniform HEA alloys and their superconductive properties. A significant goal of the study is finding the correlation between the chemical composition of the alloys, method of synthesis, and thermal\/mechanical processing and the critical parameters of their superconductive state, i.e. critical temperature (<em>T<\/em>c) or upper critical field (<em>H<\/em>c2).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work describes the synthesis, structural and physical properties of a new superconductive alloy with the sum formula (NbTa)0.67(MoHfW)0.33. It crystallises in the bcc structure and features critical parameters <em>T<\/em>c = 4.3 K \u00a0\u00a0and <em>\u03bc<\/em>0<em>H<\/em>c2 \u2248 1.45 T. In theoretical calculations two DFT methods were used: the commonly used for studying HEA alloys KKR-CPA (Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method with the coherent potential approximation) method and the PAW (projector augmented wave) method.
