Division of Astrophysics and Classic Astronomy

The main topic of research in the Division of Astrophysics and Classic Astronomy (DAPaCA) of the IA UWr are variable stars, and above all pulsating stars. The most significant research projects realized in the DAPaCA are:

  • Searching for B type variable stars in young open clusters. In particular it concerns the β Cephei type variables and slowly pulsating B type (SPB) stars. Within the program of searching for variable stars, multicolor photometry BV(RI)of open clusters is also carried out.
  • Reviewing open clusters for the presence of Be stars. For this purpose, Hα photometry is performed in two filters with half-widths of 3 and 20 nm, respectively.
  • Analysis of photometry and spectroscopy obtained within ground observation projects, e.g. OGLE, MACHO and ASAS, LAMOST and others.
  • Analysis of photometry and spectroscopy obtained within satellite mission projects, e.g. HST, Kepler, TESS and others.
  • Studying RR Lyrae and SX Phe type stars in globular clusters.
  • Modelling pulsating properties of β Cephei and δ Scuti type stars. Determination of nonadiabatic observables and identification of pulsation modes in those stars.
  • Asteroseismology of main sequence pulsating stars.
  • Determination of astrophysical properties of hot stars with particular use of observations made in ultraviolet.
  • Determination of chemical composition of the atmospheres of hot stars.
  • Search and analysis of pulsating compounds of eclipsing systems.
