From 8 to 10 May 2026, the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Wrocław hosted the nationwide astronomical conference SASCC organised by the university’s Astronomy Students’ Scientific Club.

The event attracted over 75 participants from the most important scientific centres in the country, hosting representatives from the AGH University in Cracow, Jagiellonian University in Cracow, University of Warsaw, Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń, and University of Zielona Góra.

The main idea behind the meeting was reliable expansion of astronomical knowledge and building awareness of the growing problem of light pollution which poses an increasing challenge for sky observation.

Participants had the opportunity to present the results of their own scientific research during substantive presentation sessions and a poster session, which fostered lively discussions and the exchange of experiences between students.

An extremely valuable element of the program were the guest lectures by scientists from the Astronomical Institute in Wrocław – dr Urszula Bąk-Stęślickia, prof. dr. hab. Andrzej Pigulski, and dr Sylwester Kołomański – which provided listeners with unique inspiration for further work.

The conference was an organizational and scientific success, as members of the Wrocław science club won first place in two key categories: for the best poster and for the best paper, both devoted to the topic of light pollution.

The entire event was a unique lesson and learning opportunity for all present, professionally combining a passion for space exploration with concern for protecting the night sky.
