CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR TWO RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS FOR YOUNG SCIENTISTS WITHIN THE RESEARCH PROJECT MAESTRO-15 No. 2023/50/A/ST9/00144

titled: Asteroseismic constraints on the physical properties and formation of blue stragglers

Position:  scholarship holder/student


REQUIREMENTS:

  • enrollment in the second-cycle (Master’s) astronomy program or having started the second year of the first-cycle (Bachelor’s) astronomy program
  • basic knowledge of stellar structure and evolution
  • basic knowledge of stellar pulsations is welcome
  • good command of English

DESCRIPTION OF TASKS:

As part of the scholarship, selected tasks of the project “Asteroseismic constraints on the physical properties and formation of blue stragglers” will be carried out. The project abstract is available at: https://projekty.ncn.gov.pl/opisy/598895-pl.pdf

in particular, the scholarship holder will be responsible for:

  • computing the evolution of single stars (Warsaw–New Jersey codes, MESA)
  • computing the evolution of binary stars (MESA)
  • computing stellar pulsations
  • studying the effects of various parameters on internal structure and pulsation

As part of participation in the project, the scholarship holder may apply for funding for short research or training visits and participation in conferences.


The scholarship holder will be expected to actively engage in research work, participate in project team meetings, and contribute to the preparation of scientific publications.

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS

  • duration: 12 months
  • planned start date: 1 September 2026 (earlier start possible)
  • scholarship: 3000 PLN per month

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • certificate confirming enrollment in an astronomy program, along with information about the average grades obtained so far
  • list of possible scientific publications, scholarships, awards, and other scientific or organizational achievements
  • list of conferences/scientific meetings attended (including titles and authors of presentations or indication of another form of participation)
