Tracing the origins of a rare cosmic explosion: the kilonova candidate GRB 230307A – guest lecture by prof. Davi Rodrigues

wykład

Prof. Davi Rodrigues from the Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo in Vitoria (Brasil) is coming to the University of Wrocław as part of the Visiting Profesors IDUB program.

During his stay which will last from 25 September to 18 October 2025, professor Rodrigues will give an open lecture titled: Tracing the origins of a rare cosmic explosion: the kilonova candidate GRB 230307A. The meeting will take place on 3 October 2025 at 12:15 PM in the room 422 at the Faculty of Physics and Astronomy UWr. The event is organised by the Institute of Theoretical Physics.

During his lecture prof. Davi Rodrigues will present newest research on an unusual astrophysical phenomenon – the GRB 230307A burst, which probably was not a typical gamma explosion but a rare kilonova created in an aftermath of neutron stars merging. The speaker will discuss the characteristics of this event, including the unusual location of the explosion relative to the host galaxy, as well as the challenges it poses to contemporary theoretical models and simulations.
